Note how cutting staff does not appear to be a sensible long-term strategy. At the core of all this are notions of how old media transitions to new. For the most part, these transitions have failed. This is to be expected: no one really knows what works online. It’s all still too new. But you’ve gotta have resources (read: “people”). And that’s the resource that old media have been jettisoning by the thousands.
